Introduction

Setting up the Follow for Discount Shopify app is simple and only takes a few steps. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to get started — from creating a Meta Developer App to connecting your Instagram account and configuring webhooks. This setup ensures your customers get automatic discount codes via Instagram DMs, turning casual followers into recurring customers.

Each section includes step-by-step instructions and screenshots to guide you through the process.

Creating Meta App

1. Go to developer.facebook.com and login with your facebook account.

   

   
   

2. Go to My Apps and create a new App.

   

   
   

3. Give this app a name. Eg. Follow for Discount, and enter your email address.

   

   
   

4. In Use cases section, select Other, and hit next.

   

   
   

5. Under App Type, select Business.

   

   
   

6. Confirm App Name and Contact email. No need to select any Business portfolio.

   

   
   

7. Once the app is created, from products add Instagram by clicking Set up button.

   

   
   

8. Save Instagram app ID and Instagram app secret for later use.

   

9. From the sidebar, click on App roles > Roles.

   

   
   

10. Click on Add People and add a Instagram Tester.

    

    
    

11. Enter the Instagram handle(username) of your shop's Instagram Account, and select it from the dropdown options.

    

    
    

12. Once you add the Instagram account, you'll have to accept the invite in your Instagram account settings. Login to your instagram account in a new tab. And go to instagram.com/accounts/website_permissions

    

    
    

13. Under Apps and websites, go to Tester Invites, and accept the invitation from Follow for Discount App.

    

    
    

14. In the App roles settings, you'll see the Instagram account is integrated.

    

    
    

15. Go back to Instagram Setup, we'll configure webhooks now.

    

    
    

16. Add https://widgets-fh33gsv7tq-uc.a.run.app/meta/webhook as Callback URL and TEST as verify token. Now hit on Verify and save.

    

    If you see any error as "Something went wrong…", just hit on Verify and save button again.

17. Once the Webhooks are configured, We'll enable messages webhook.

    

    
    

18. We have to separately Subscribe to Webhook for the Instagram account. For that, toggle the switch. If it asks to "Generate a new access token first", just click on "Generate token".

    

    
    

19. A new window will open. Login with Shop's Instagram account.

    

    
    

20. Allow all permissions.

    

    
    

21. The token will be generated, as we don't need this token, just hit "Ok"

    

    
    

22. Now, you should be able to enable Webhook Subscription.

    

    
    

23. Under Setup Instagram business login > Set up, Add Redirect URL https://widgets-fh33gsv7tq-uc.a.run.app/meta/auth/callback

    

    
    

24. No need to submit the app for review. So, skip Step 4 and Change App Mode to Live.

    

    
    

25. When you'll try to change App mode to Live, it'll ask to submit a valid Privacy Policy URL in Basic Settings. Click on Go to Basic Settings.

    

    
    

26. Under Privacy Policy URL, add https://ffd.framer.media/legal/privacy

    

    
    

27. Now, you can change App mode to Live.

    

    
    

Connecting Meta App

1. Once you've installed Follow for Discount Shopify app, go to Configuration

   

   
   

2. Add Instagram App ID and Instagram App Secret, and hit Save.

   

   
   

3. Once Saved, you'll be able to see connect option. Click on that button.

   

   
   

4. A new tab will open, click on Connect Instagram button.

   

   
   

5. Keep both the permissions enabled, and hit Allow. If you disabled any of the permission, the app won't work.

   

   Make sure you are already logged in to your shops instagram account.

6. You'll see a confirmation message saying - "Instagram Connected Successfully!".

   

   If instagram connection fails. Make sure to re-check you are following this guide correctly.

7. In the Configuration page, press Verify button.

   

   
   

8. Verification will take few seconds, after a successful verification, you'll see Instagram Connected has changes to Yes.

   

   
   

9. Change App Status to Live.

   

   
   

10. Now go to Themes and Customize.

    

    
    

11. Go to Product page, and after the Buy Button. We'll add a new component.

    

    It's completely up to you, you may add the component at any place.

    
    

12. Go to Apps, and select Follow for Discount.

    

    
    

13. Hit on Save

    

    
    

14. Go to your store, and open any product. You'll see Follow for Discount component on the UI.

    

    
    

15. When you click on the text, a popup will appear with the instructions.

    

Summary

Once you’ve completed all the steps above, your Follow for Discount app will be fully integrated with your Instagram and Shopify store. Your customers can now follow your shop, send a simple DM, and instantly receive a discount code — no manual work required.
